Achieving sustainable development requires the training of specialized and competent human resources through educational centers and institutions. While, one of the concerns of higher agricultural education, especially in recent years, is the issue of student retention. The purpose of this causal-relational research was to determine the factors influencing the retention of agricultural students. The statistical population was the undergraduate students of in College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Razi University in the academic year 2021-2022 (N=901), which 270 were selected based on Bartlett's table with a stratified random sampling method. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire, which was used for its reliability and validity through ordinal coefficient theta (Ө= 0.87) and an expert panel. Exploratory factor analysis showed that factors related to professors, support-management factor, environmental and educational facilities and personal factor were extracted as effective factors on student retention. These factors explain about 73% of the variance related to the retention of agricultural students. The results of the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests did not show significant difference between the viewpoints of male and female students and different fields and educational degrees of students. While, there was a significant difference between the viewpoints of rural and urban students regarding the factors affecting the retention of students. Based on the findings, Creating motivation and interest in students by professors, supporting the government in creating jobs for agricultural graduates, providing greenhouses and agricultural land to carry out practical activities in agricultural colleges can create situation for retention of students.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the motivation of students to enter the technical and vocational higher education course. The statistical population of the study was composed of 1020 student of technical and vocational higher education course in the educational centers in the academic year of 1994-95 and from that 346 students were selected using the Kerjesie and Morgan tables and through stratified random sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire that its validity was reviewed and confirmed by a group of relevant experts. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed by pretest and Teta coefficient (Ө = 0.94). Factor analysis showed that student motivations are detected in six dimensions including: Occupational and Individual, Educational – Institutional, Compulsory environment and media Advertising, Insist and recommend friends and parents, Entering to university and earning a degree of education and Financial constraints and appropriate tuition. The aim of this study was to investigate factors affecting motivation of agricultural graduates to work in the rural areas. A survey was conducted among including 300 agricultural graduates from Shiraz University in 2013, who 80 people were selected using random sampling. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire which its face validity was confirmed by experts. Also, the questionnaires were subjected to reliability test. α=0.8 to 0.85 were the values found for the Cronbach Alpha’s coefficients. The results of Mann-Witney U- test revealed that there was a significant difference between motivation of male and female to work in the rural areas. Moreover, the results of Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there were significant differences between motivations of graduates from different fields of agricultural study to work in the rural areas.
